Getting to know you. Getting to know all about you.

Welcome ICLW ers! This will be an interesting ICLW for me as my computer is broken. Completely fried by a virus I received while reading entertainment news on MSN. Bummer. It is currently in triage while we try to restore it's functionality. So, I'll be ICLWing on my work computer during my break. I'll do my best to keep up with the commenting!

For those of you new to my blog (WELCOME!), I thought I'd start the week by sharing some getting to know you facts about me. Some relevant facts, and some just for fun. So, here goes!

1. My husband and I are dealing with male-factor infertility. Therefore, we jumped right to the top of the heap with IVF with ICSI.

2. Our first attempt at IVF was a big fat failure with 0 (zero, nada, nilch) eggs fertilized.

3. We are about to embark on IVF # 2, assuming that the cysts I've been battling go away and STAY AWAY!!!

4. I am currently shooting up with my friend Lupron. Last night, I gave myself a shot in my thigh, and must have hit the wrong spot as blood started streaming down my leg and I have a huge bruise.

5. Lupron make me SO tired. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

6. I love my husband to death. We've been married for 10 1/2 years and have been through our set of ups and downs but he's still my best friend and biggest supporter.

7. Like a good infertile, I have surrounded myself with animals instead of children. I have a English Mastiff dog, and 3 cats. It's a zoo - filled with animal fur.

8. I love to do crafty stuff, but some of my joy for that has waned during this infertility craze. It's hard to make scrapbooks, and knit and sew when I always planned on doing those things to share a bit of myself with my future children.

9. I need a vacation so bad right now. But, I'm having a hard time justifying the cost. The vacation may just win.

10. My husband and I decided that we need something to focus on, so we're going to try to learn Spanish. Got my audio tapes all ready!

That's the highlights for now. I'd love to learn about you too. So, post a comment with the most interesting fact about you and where you're dying to go on vacation. Looking forward to getting to know everyone during ICLW!

Sorry to hear about the computer - viruses are a PITA.

  4. I really want to go to Greece, but it's so expensive...

I think Mastiffs are beautiful. When I got my first dog, I was in in a 1 bedroom apt, so I had to downsize and ended up with a boxer. Now I'm hooked and couldn't imagine owning any other type of dogs. But I still love giant dogs.

I've been really tired too, and never thought it could be the Lupron. Huh.

  5. Ironically, we finalized our vacation plans last night. We've been debating whether we should go or not; we may be starting an IVF cycle soon and probably shouldn't spend the extra money. But we're going to anyway - so, Hilton Head, here I come!! Hope the vacation wins out for you, too!

The most interesting fact about me is probably that I have two Sphynx (hairless) cats (we also have a Scottie - can't leave him out).

  6. OMG you sound like me with the animals. We HAD 2 cats and 4 dogs. Now we are down the 2 dogs, a friend's dog that we have afor a little while, and one of the cats has turned into an outside barn cat that mostly munches on cat food and animals. ewwww

  7. Good luck with this cycle. I can imagine it might be hard to do crafts you envisioned sharing with your child. I know my crafts were my sanity saver, and, if you can regard them as something for you, they might help your peace of mind.

  8. All the best on this cycle! We have 2 dogs and 2 cats but our dogs are of the smaller variety (CKCS).

  9. I'd really wanted to go to Iceland this summer, and would have, but fate intervened. Now I'll need to wait and take my children.

Best wishes with your cycle! Lupron made me tired too.

  10. Blessings on your IVF!
Where am I dying to go? Currently NYC, and we are going in the fall. After that, the UK and Ireland... to do some family history research.

  11. I'm very sorry to hear about your first IVF. We have some similar stories. I also jumped right in with IVF/ICSI because of MFI, and also had a failed first IVF.
I also shot Lupron on my thigh! And it also bled (like streaking down bleeding). I was having the most awful side effects, i couldn't walk! My legs were in unbelievable pain and heavyness and my clinic did not pay attention to me. I later decided to try and do the injection on my stomach, and the horrible effects disappeared (except for tiredness and hot flashes). I learned then that unless you really have extra fat on your thighs, we should not inject there. I have very muscular thighs and I figured the medication was going where it shouldn't. So, if that's your case, if you have muscular thighs, then stick to your tummy for the meds, it works better, no bleeding, and I guess the extra fat there helps with absorption. Good luck!

  12. Good luck on this next cycle!

My most interesting fact: I have a false tooth where I never had a grown-up tooth come in.

I'm going to Scotland in September to tour castles. If I can't have a baby, I might as well go on some awesome vacations!

  13. I would love to go to France, but since we're on a budget (damn insurance with no infertility coverage) I'm going to settle for the beach in Florida.

Interesting fact: I was named after the song "Brandy" (you know, Brandy, you're a fine girl) AND Shea Stadium (middle name).

We're also dealing with male factor, but we recently found out that I have a luteal-phase defect. Good news with that, it's easy to treat with progesterone supplements.
